Rumbach is located on the Camino de Santiago is the best starting point to all the sights in the country rocks Palatinate and Alsace. It is the most excellent village in the district of Southwest Palatinate.
In the village they find a baker who is famous for its cakes and provides them with the necessities of life.
There are bus stops, a small park with Kneipp pool, two playgrounds, marked hiking trails (some with panoramic views), marked Nordic Walking trails, Nature trails, bike trails available. Birkelsfelsen, Adelsnadel and Kastellsfelsen (rocks) are a popular destination for climbers. A large well-marked trail and bicycle path network with connection and Southern Alsace wine road leads to many attractions.
Post office, bank, chash machine / ATM, grocery stores, hairdressers, pharmacies, doctors and a gas station are just 2.5 km from Rumbach or to see the 9 km Dahn.
Already more than 1000 years ago there was a settlement here in the valley. The remains of a chapel at the 1000-year-old Christuskirche (church) date back to the 9th century. Until the 16th century was "Rhone river", a place of pilgrimage, which was dedicated to the holy Saint Gangolf. The many streams and springs of the village were probably the reason why the knights blessing from the surrounding country rock castles were their horses here. As early as 1533, the Office Wegelnburg reformed and the pilgrimage came to an end.
The thirty years' War destroyed the Palatinate castles and villages and left the area almost deserted. The steady influx of swiss immigrants prevented the disappearance of the place and kept the old church. Almost a century decimated wars, plague and bad harvests, the population steadily. End of the 18th century Rumbach was only in french, then bavarian.
The life of the Rumbach consisted of hard woods and field work and was very modest. The population grew and mid 20th century had the forest wealth of the community to a remarkable prosperity. Then moved to industrialization, field work and wood were not enough of the living. The surrounding villages came together to rock the country Dahn.
Today Rumbach is a quiet village with 550 inhabitants and up to 300 years old half-timbered houses. The forest is rich is still there, so the traveler can enjoy miles of nature and peace. Against the industrialization by earlier generations have fought successfully, which today is for some a curse but a blessing for those seeking relaxation. The old church with frescoes, half-timbered houses, cottage gardens, fruit trees, horse pastures and bizarre rock formations characterize today the image of an ancient farming village that is trying to revive the old traditions to build their back, and the nature prefixing.
